How it Works

The way Cyclescheme works is that your employer purchases the bike you've chosen and deducts it from your salary over 12 months. Because the deduction is made before tax, you'll pay less income tax and national insurance, saving up to 40% of the price of the e-bike. Finally there's an End of Hire agreement so you can keep the bike, where you can pay as little as 7% of the value of the certificate. Including the end of hire cost, your total savings can be as much as 40% As simple as that, no if's, no but's, no extra charges.

FAQ's

Anyone who receives their salary through the PAYE system is eligible unless the salary sacrifice results in the salary dropping under National Living Wage/National Minimum Wage.
If you leave your job before your ebike is fully repaid the outstanding amount will be taken out of your final salary. This will come out of your net pay, therefore there will be no tax advantage on this value. To keep the bike you'll need to go through the end of hire payment as well.
For the durantion of the scheme you'll be hiring the ebike, meaning it belongs to your employer until the salary sacrifice and end of hire payment is complete.
At the end of the hire agreement you will be given 3 options:

  1. You return the package to Cyclescheme.

  2. You pay 25% of the value of the certificate to take ownership immediately.

  3. You sign up for an extended hire agreement with Cyclescheme for 36 months. This will entail an initial payment of 7% of the certificate, but no further during the rest of the agreement. Once the 36 months are over you can keep your package or send it to Cyclescheme and receive the 7% back.
The third option is recommended as it maximises your savings and you keep the ebike.
There is a wide range of accessories that can be included in the Cyclescheme certificate, such as:

  • Helmets
  • Locks
  • Panniers
  • Pumps
  • Lights
  • Batteries
No, although it should be mostly used for making your way to work, there's nothing stopping you from enjoying your e-bike on your free time.
You will be responsible for your ebike from the moment it leaves the store, therefore if it's stolen this will mean the end of the hire agreement and the remaining value of the e-bike will be deducted from your net pay. It is recommended that you insure your purchase and Volt will give you a 30-day free insurance trial with Laka.
